Why Are We Doing This?

We are intentionally and strategically entering this season (Jan 26- Feb 16) to draw near to God and seek His will for our lives!

“Fasting is deliberately abstaining from the normal routines of life. It’s purpose is to spend focused time in prayer and the study of God’s word, seeking to align our lives with God’s will.

Ultimately, fasting is more about replacing than abstaining. It is filling out lives with God’s word instead of food, social media or entertainment. It is finding satisfaction and enjoyment in God and in God alone. Fasting helps us humble ourselves before the Lord and positions us to experience spiritual breakthrough in our lives.”

Gary Rohrmayer - 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

Pick Your Fast:

Full Fast: Drink liquids only. Please consult your doctor first.

Daniel Fast: Eat only vegetables, fruit, water, and juice.

Partial Fast: Not eating one or two meals on a specific day or abstaining from certain types of food.

All-day Food Fast: Abstaining from food one day or multiple days per week.

Activity/Media Fast: Abstaining from a time-consuming activity such as entertainment, social media, hobbies, television, internet, sports, etc.

Seek The Lord:

We encourage you to set your intentions.  Why are you fasting? What are you hoping for? Is there a specific breakthrough you are seeking for your life or our church family? Be specific. Are you looking for healing (physical or spiritual), direction, restoration, resolution of conflict, or a word for God? Write these requests down and keep a prayer journal over the next 21 days.

Feast on the Word of God.  Remember, fasting is more about replacing than abstaining. In this season of fasting, we are declaring our total dependence on God. We are expressing that dependence through fasting, prayer, and spending time feasting on the word of God. Jesus said, in Matthew 4:4, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”If you are looking for a devotional style resource to use during the 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, we are giving away book by Gary Rohrmayer called Victorious: A 21 Day Journey To A Victorious Prayer Life. You can pick one of these up on Sunday mornings at Redemption. You can also use the Bible Reading plan, or a resource that works for you.

Open your life before God. Prayer is not about getting what we want from God, rather prayer is about aligning ourselves with God. Be honest in your prayers, open your life up to God, and express your struggles and desires to Him. Then pray, “Lord, your will be done in my life as it is in heaven.” Fasting and prayer are powerful ways to align ourselves with the will of God.

Enter this season with expectation. “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6) Enter this season with confidence. Prayer and Fasting is a supernatural endeavor that has moved, shaped, and transformed God’s people for centuries. We are expecting God to move in powerful ways.
