What Are Missional Communities?
Missional Communities are groups of people who gather in homes and partner together for three things:
To grow in their walk with Christ; aiming to know, love, and become more like Jesus.
To grow closer together in relationships and community.
To serve and love our community through outreach.
Simply put, missional communities are all about Disciple-Making. We are Disciples who make Disciples.
More Than Just Sunday Mornings:
The men and woman who first followed Jesus, did not just gather for an hour or so on a Sunday morning. While the early church was not perfect, it was however, built on the things that pleased God the most.
Acts 2:42-47 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
If we had to use one word to describe the early church, it is DEVOTED.
They were devoted to The Apostles Teaching (The Word of God).
They were devoted to The Breaking of Bread (Eating Meals & Taking Communion Together).
They were devoted to The Fellowship (They were dedicated to one another).
They were devoted to Prayer (Communicating with God).
At Redemption Church, we are on the adventure of following Jesus. We are like a spiritual outfitter. We are here to ENCOURAGE, EQUIP, RESOURCE, and GUIDE you on your spiritual journey. More than anything, we want people to get our of their lazy boy recliner, and follow Jesus. It’s time to begin the adventure of a life time!
“Most of us have become quite good at the church thing. And yet, disciples are the only thing that Jesus cares about, and it’s the only number that Jesus is counting. Not our attendance or budget or building.” - Mike Breen.
What Do Missional Communities Do?
You can call a missional community whatever you want, but we like the name House Church, cause that is what they are. A house-full of friends, living for the glory and mission of God.
When Missional Communities gather, there is usually food, a time to connect, lots of laughter and stories; but at the core, Missional Communities do three things together.
UP: Fixing Our Eye On Jesus
When Missional Communities gather, our first priority is to fix our eyes on Jesus. As we get started, we recommend the groups watch the sermon for that week, and then dive deeper into the scriptures.
Two really important questions to ask during this time:
What is Jesus saying to you?
How are you responding?
We believe following Jesus is the adventure of a life time. We want to help people know, love, and become more like Jesus during our time together!
IN: Intentional, Loving Relationships
Missional Communities provide us with a great place to develop “connected friendships”. This is not a traditional Bible Study, this is an opportunity to really get to know and care for the people in your group.
John 13:35- “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
When Missional Communities gather, there is time to hang out, share stories, eat some food, and connect. There is time to both share prayer requests, and to be prayer for. There are greater opportunities to be real, be open, and ask for help on your spiritual journey.
OUT: Reaching the people around us
Missional Communities exists for the glory and mission of God. Together, we are on a mission to reach the lost and make disciples.
Each missional community will actively pursue the mission of God, by reaching out to the people around them. Maybe that means throwing a BBQ and inviting your friends and neighbors, maybe you partner with a local food pantry and serve as a group, maybe you become aware of a need and meet that need through a service project, whatever it is we believe we are missionaries who make disciples!
Matthew 28:18-20- And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
